Congratulations to the following Community members who were recently appointed to the Order of Ontario. Congratulations! Joseph Raymond Buncic (JF 1967-1970), Quadrangle Society Member Karen Goldenberg and Alumni John Jennings (JF 1977-1973). There citations are listed below.
Dr. Joseph Raymond Buncic’s vision has overseen the transformation of the pediatric ophthalmology department at SickKids into an internationally distinguished clinic while he and his team have set standards for diagnosis and treatment worldwide. He has dedicated his 50-year career to educating medical students and fellows from around the world.
Karen Goldenberg is a champion of the underprivileged and disadvantaged. Educated as a physical and occupational therapist, her professional pursuits have led to innovations to in-home rehabilitation programs while her volunteerism has improved autism education, addiction research, and career and employment services. Her work as special advisor to the Ontario Minister of Health ultimately led to Bill 173, the Long-Term Care Act.
John Jennings — one of Canada’s foremost historians of canoe history, was a central figure in the creation and development of the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough – now a nationally recognized Canadian institution, which educates Canadians about the contribution of the canoe – a national iconic symbol. Dr. Jennings book, The Canoe: A Living Tradition is regarded as a seminal contribution to the field.
