MGR Symposium featuring the 8ᵗʰ Annual Janet Rossant Lecture

Massey College and Friends of CIHR are happy to announce that Dr. Sonya MacParland, PhD has been awarded the 2026 Janet Rossant Lectureship

Dr. MacParland will deliver her talk in conjunction with the Massey Grand Rounds Symposium entitled, “Advances in Liver and Bile Duct Disease: From Molecules to Patient-Partnered Research.”

Dr. Sonya MacParland, PhD, is a Professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and a Senior Scientist in the Ajmera Transplant Centre at UHN. She is the Director of the Schwartz Reisman Liver Research Centre and the Canada Research Chair Tier 2 in Liver Immunobiology.

Dr. MacParland's research program is focused on translating fundamental knowledge about the immune biology of the liver into clinical applications. She is dedicated to working with patients and patient organizations as partners throughout the research process. Dr. MacParland and her collaborators are using advanced genomics, including single-cell RNA sequencing, to describe the microenvironment of the healthy and diseased human liver. Her team developed the first transcriptomic map of the human liver, which was published in Nature Communications.

The Janet Rossant Lectureship was established in 2018 at Massey College in recognition of Dr. Janet Rossant’s distinguished career as a scientist, scholar, builder, and leader in medical research. This honorific lectureship is bestowed on an accomplished scientist to engage graduate students and faculty members alike as part of the Massey Grand Rounds (MGR) program at Massey College.
