I’m pleased to provide you with a quick overview of our in person and online programming for September. The Welcome Barbeque is happening on September 10th from 5:00-8:00pm ET. We are currently at capacity for in person spots. Join us online at 6:00pm ET for introductions to community members and a welcome from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
Our Ethics Series resumes on Thursday, September 16th from 12:00-1:00pm ET. Senior Fellow Thomas Axworthy will moderate a panel of distinguished experts online including Monika Leroy, Senior Advisor to the Organization of American States; Shelia Gervais, former National Director of the Liberal Party of Canada; and Massey Junior Fellow and Schoolboard Trustee Cam Galindo to explore the topic “Ethics, Political Parties and Campaigns: What Standards Should We Demand?”
On behalf of the organizing committee at the Canada-United Kingdom Colloquium, you are invited to the launch of the official report of the 2021 Canada-United Kingdom Colloquium on Federalism, Devolution and COVID-19 written by Ms. Laurie Stephens.
It is a virtual event taking place on Zoom on Friday, September 17th from 12:00-1:00pm ET. It will feature a panel discussion chaired by Professor Peter Loewen as well as an interactive Q&A session.

Each year Massey College hosts the Franklin Forum on a topic at the intersection of Science, Engineering, Public Policy & Society
This year in honour of the centenary of the birth of Dr. Ursula Franklin we will hold a virtual event with colleagues, friends and family highlighting her contributions as a mentor and colleague, in research and teaching, as a public intellectual and champion for the advancement of peace. Speakers include Senior Fellows Jane Freeman and Doug Perovic, Carson Dueck and Alumni Phil De Luna, among others who will reflect on Ursula’s legacy and lead discussion. Come to remember one of Massey College’s leading lights! For the new Junior Fellows, in particular, come and be inspired by her legacy!

Join us for the Massey Dialogues on Wednesday, September 22nd from 4:00 – 5:00pm ET in the Upper Library and online. Quadrangle Society Member Akaash Maharaj and Junior Fellow L’Ashante Henry will discuss Inclusion, Racism and Power in Canada: Are Sports Institutions Part of the Solution or Part of the Problem?
Climate Change and Global Health Threats, our first Climate Action event of the year is on Thursday, September 23rd from 12:00-1:00pm ET. Join us in person in the Upper Library or online. Diplomat in Residence, Rosemary McCarney, Junior Fellows Jean-Paul R. Soucy and Andrew T. Lam will be joined by Dr. Courtney Howard – an Emergency Physician and globally-recognized expert on the impact of climate change on health.
Also happening on Thursday, September 23rd from 5:00pm ET is the virtual launch of Out of the Sun: On Race and Storytelling. Join best-selling author and the 2021 CBC Massey Lecturer Esi Edugyan in conversation with Host of CBC Ideas Nahlah Ayed as a precursor to the 2021 virtual lecture tour. Out of the Sun explores the relationship between art and race through the lens of visual art, literature, film and the author’s lived experiences.
Join us for the Junior Fellows Lecture Series (JFLS)! This first event in the series will be a Lightning Round! Friday, September 24th from 7:00-8:00pm ET Live from the College Quadrangle and broadcast on Zoom. Junior Fellows will present their research with five minutes and one slide each.

Thursday, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We are very honoured to host a ceremony with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation in the College Quadrangle at 11:00am ET.
Congratulations are in order for incoming Senior Fellow Alexie Tcheuyap for being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada as well as to Alumni Phil De Luna who becomes a College member.
