Senior Fellow Alán Aspuru-Guzik will deliver the annual CIFAR Massey talk on Tuesday, October 11th. Dr. Asupru-Guzik will explore robotics, renewable energy and AI and discuss opportunities that disruptive innovation creates. Dr. Aspuru-Guzik will be joined on stage by three Junior Fellows, Alec Krawciw, Aditi Maheshwari and Alexandra Martin. Massey Grand Rounds is hosting the 17th Annual Symposium: “Modernizing Women’s Health” featuring the 4th Annual Janet Rossant Lectureship by Dr. Lorraine Lipscombe on “The impact of diabetes on women across the lifespan.” Additional speakers include Dr. Tania Di Renna, who will discuss sex differences in diagnosis and management of chronic pain, and Dr. Sheila Dunn, who will discuss Mifepristone, COVID and the transformation of abortion in Canada. Join us on Wednesday, October 12th, 1:00pm-3:30pm in the Upper Library to learn about cutting edge research in medicine, pain management, policy, and technology to advocate for and improve women’s health.

I am deeply saddened to write to you about the passing of Senior Fellow Chandler Davis. Please join me in sending condolences to his wife, Senior Fellow Natalie Zemon Davis and their family. Please see the obituary attached outlining his remarkable life. Donations in his honor can be made to the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund at New College, supporting students working for social change, to Greenpeace Canada, or to B’Tselem, the Israeli Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories.

I’m pleased to announce that Peter Sloly is this year’s Changemaker in Residence at Massey College. Peter Sloly is a Visiting Fellow, Change Maker-in-Residence at Massey College. He enjoyed three successful careers as a professional athlete, a professional services firm Partner and a police officer who rose to the rank of police chief. Peter’s work took him to four continents and forty countries, including two tours of duty in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo. He has an MBA and a Sociology BA. Peter’s motto is “others before self, compassion for all” and he helps organizations achieve differentiated outcomes that contribute to safer, more inclusive, and more just societies. Peter is married with two children.
