Senior Fellow, the Rt. Hon. Adrienne Clarkson, has been named Honorary Chair of the National Institute on Ageing – a wonderful nomination which speaks to her relentless commitment to public service.
I would like to share with you an article written by Wanja Gathu – this year’s Gordon N. Fisher Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) Fellow in the most recent issue of Peace Journalist Magazine. Wanja is pictured below – addressing the audience at the JHR’s 20th Anniversary Celebration in Toronto this past September.

Before I get to upcoming events, congratulations are also in order for Senior Fellow and last year’s Massey Lecturer, Esi Edugyan, who won the City of Victoria Book Prize for Out of the Sun: On Race and Storytelling (house of Anansi Press) – the book version of the 2021 CBC Massey Lectures. Lastly, I’m pleased to announce that after a long hiatus due to COVID 19 the Massey Choir is back! It is open to everyone in the community – no training required, and no auditions. This is a chance to “make a joyful noise” once a week, together with friends. Our new director is Yara Rubb, a gifted young choral conductor from Lebanon, by way of Switzerland and Wales.
The first rehearsal is Tuesday, October 18, 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the Music Room (Colin Friesen Room). All are welcome!
