Lots to celebrate! May is Asian, South Asian and Jewish Heritage Month – we celebrate the communities at Massey and look to our May 9th event with Dr. Chi-Ming Chow (hyperlink).
To those who celebrate, we wish you had a Happy Khalsa Day yesterday. I am delighted to announce the publication of the Massey Essay on the state of the media, published as part of our partnership with The Literary Review of Canada (https://reviewcanada.ca) to honour the memory of Vincent Massey Tovell, a long-time CBC producer and a good friend of Massey College. This year, the recipient is James Brooke-Smith who is the author of Where’s Johnny? On the lost art of public conversation. Read the Massey Essay here.
I am sorry to share the news of the passing of Senior Fellow Charles Pascal. Charles was an engaged member of our community who regularly provided advice and ideas. We send our condolences to his family and friends who will miss him. Quadrangler Steve Paikin wrote a touching in memoriam article about Charles his love of public education, baseball and honesty. https://www.tvo.org/article/remembering-charles-pascal
MASSEY LOVES TO READ
As you know, Massey loves to read (and buy books!) We are hosting a number of excellent book launches this month and I hope you will join us for readings, discussions and celebrations of the written word.
Saturday was Independent Bookstore Day. Many of our fellows have published books that are available through indie bookstores. It’s never too late to pick up a copy of a book you saw launched at the College. https://cibabooks.ca/CIBD
Our Massey College Book Club has an open survey to get a sense of what books you want to read and discuss next year. Please let them know what you think here: https://tinyurl.com/masseybc2324
