My condolences to the family and friends of The Honourable Judge Paul Theodore “Ted” Matlow. He was a founding Junior Fellow at Massey College and a retired Judge of the Superior Court of Justice. Read his full obituary here.

Massey Choir, 2023-2024 

We are pleased to share that Yara Robb will be returning to direct the Massey Choir this year. Rehearsals will be on Sunday evenings, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Music Room (Colin Friesen Room) starting in September. Pizza will be provided! 

All are welcome to join – Junior Fellows, Alumni, Senior Fellows, Visiting Scholars, Quadranglers, Journalism Fellows, and staff. No training is required, and no experience necessary.

Awards 

Congratulations to the Order of Canada recipients: 

  • Senior Fellow, Alan Bernstein was promoted to Companion of the Order . . .”for his leadership in Canadian health research and science policy and support for future generations of researchers. He is credited with revitalizing Canadian health research, promoting interdisciplinary research and championing women and younger scientists as the inaugural president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the president and CEO of CIFAR (the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research), among other roles in research administration.” 
  • Senior Fellow and retired Justice from the Court of Appeal, The Honorable Robert Sharpe, O.C. for his contributions to the advancement of law in Canada both as a judge and academic. 
  • Quadrangle Society Member Gary Goldberg, C.M., for his decades of philanthropic leadership and contributions to scientific, health, environmental and educational initiatives. 

Senior Fellow Randy Boyagoda reviews a new transhistorical novel in the NYT. 

Junior Fellow Sourojeet Chakraborty is one of the recipients of the 2023 Student Life Catalyst Award from the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry at U of T, for his service to the department during his PhD studies. Full press release here.  Sourojeet has also started as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Stable Isotope Lab under Senior Fellow Barbara Sherwood Lollar.

Quadrangle Society Member Kelly Meighen has been named the 24th Chancellor of Western University.  

Senior Fellow Allan Peterkin MD has received the US-based Health Humanities Consortium Visionary Award for his work in arts- and humanities-based education with learners across healthcare disciplines in Canada and internationally. 

Alum Achala Rodrigo is starting a new position as Assistant Professor Clinical Neuroscience and Neuropsychology at York University.  

Senior Fellow Sapna Sharma was appointed a York Research Chair in Global Change Biology. Her research as Chair will seek a deeper understanding of the ecological impacts of climate change on freshwater availability and quality.

Junior Fellow Otuto Chukwu has been accepted for oral presentation at the 81st World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brisbane, Australia in September. He created a novel framework detailing critical concepts for guiding the development of new models of care for improving access to cancer care services.
