Welcome to September – I hope you all had a wonderful and restful Labour Day weekend. As I am writing to you now, I see new and returning Junior Fellows moving into their rooms, the excitement and anticipation of the new academic year is palpable. Programming at the College is in full swing, and the staff and I are very much looking forward to seeing you back at Massey.
Make sure to get a ticket for you and a guest to our first High Table of the year on September 20.
Please join me in passing along condolences to Senior Fellow David Cameron and family. His wife, Quadrangler Stevie Cameron, passed away over the weekend. You can read about her impressive career and legacy in the Globe and Mail, here – and the CBC here.
A funeral will be held on September 8 at St. Andrew’s Church. The flag at Massey has been lowered in tribute.
Remembering Natalie Zemon Davis
On September 24 the Department of Women and Gender Studies is hosting a screening of an interview with Natalie Zemon Davis and Shauna Sweeney on the foundation of the first course in women’s and gender history at the University of Toronto. With remarks from Franca Iacovetta, Chris Pihlak, Shauna Sweeney and director, Ayo Tsalithaba. Natalie was a much-loved Senior Fellow and passed away in the fall of last year.
Massey Choir
The Massey Choir will be back this year under the direction of Jayden Browne, who comes to us from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. Starting on September 9, rehearsals will be on Mondays from 5:00-6:00pm in the Music Room (Colin Friesen Room).
All are welcome to join – Junior Fellows, Alumni, Senior Fellows, Quadranglers, Visiting Scholars, Journalism Fellows and staff. No training is required and no experience necessary.
Members of the choir are invited to stay for formal dinner after rehearsal at a subsidized rate (Check in with the Choir Director for the discount code.) Share a meal with new friends and make your autumn Mondays evenings full of music, excellent food and wonderful company!
