Last Friday’s Muslim Heritage High Table was a fabulous event, celebrating remarkable accomplishments of the community. Dr. Ulrike Al-Khamis, Director of the Aga Khan Museum gave a compelling address linking the art of the museum to multi-cultural/Canadian goals of peace at the Museum, which has me planning to visit the Museum again this year.

Language is foundational to cultures and works by representing aspects of reality as well as in connecting one context to another. Intuitions of higher learning such as colleges and universities are essential to deepen our understanding of the world. For decades, the pursuit of higher education at the most prestigious universities often meant that people from the global south would travel to the global north to receive an education. Often, those folks would not return, contributing to a “brain drain” in their homelands. We will speak with a panel of experts to answer crucial questions around approaches, knowledge sharing, equity, and more. RSVP

Join the 9th annual forum to consider the aspirations for future activities around science, engineering and policy. There will be a panel discussion (featuring Senior Fellow Barbara Sherwood Lollar, Alum Julie Payette and myself) followed by a new innovation – the UFF poster session for Massey. AWARDS and APPOINTMENTS
- Senior Fellow Sabreena Delhon was awarded the Coronation Medal for service to Canada in November 2024. She is currently the CEO of the Samara Centre for Democracy, a non-partisan charity dedicated to securing a vibrant culture of civic engagement in Canada.
- Journalism Fellow Alum Omayra Issa received the 2024 Reelworld Trailblazer Award which recognizes talented Canadians who have set themselves apart as innovators and change-makers in the entertainment industry. Earlier this year, she was named a World Economic Young Global Leader.
- The University of Toronto Faculty of Law has awarded Alum Ronan Mallovy the Patricia Julia Myhal Scholarship for excellence in legal writing for his paper on “climate disobedience.
