Malaparte (1898-1957) was an Italian ex-Fascist, man of letters, cultural dandy, poseur and prolific journalist. Kaputt mingles high and low culture in an exuberant, surreal, violently sadistic, phantasmagoric reportage from the abyss of cruelty that was the Eastern Front in WW II where Malaparte covered the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union.
