Senior Fellow and Chair of the Anti-Black Racism Council at Massey, the Honourable Michael Tulloch has been sworn in as the Chief Justice of Ontario and President of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Congratulations! Read the press release here. It was wonderful to attend the swearing in last Friday, a momentous and historical occasion.
The University of King’s College will honour Senior Fellow and Senior Resident Kim Kierans for her extraordinary professional accomplishments and contributions to public service at the King’s 233 Encaenia on May 25 and bestow an honorary degree. Congratulations Kim!

Book Launch – Systemic Islamophobia in Canada: A Research Agenda, edited by Senior Fellow Anver M. Emon
Systemic Islamophobia in Canada presents critical perspectives on systemic Islamophobia in Canadian politics, law, and society, and maps areas for future research and inquiry. The authors consist of both scholars and professionals who encounter in the ordinary course of their work the – sometimes banal, sometimes surprising – operation of systemic Islamophobia. Centering the lived realities of Muslims primarily in Canada, but internationally as well, the contributors identify the limits of democratic accountability in the operation of our shared institutions of government.

Junior Fellow Florence Ashley will join the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Law as a tenure-track assistant professor. Congratulations Florence!
To celebrate World Water Day last week, Senior Fellow Tom Axworthy co-wrote an article in the Globe and Mail urging the Federal government to implement its long-promised Canada Water Agency – read it here.
Professor Dr. Zulfiqar Bhutta, PhD, MBBS, FRCPCH, FAAP, FRS, Founding Director of the Institute for Global Health and Development and the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health at the Aga Khan University and Co-Director of the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health, is the recipient of the 2023 Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research. Please see attached for more information.

Senior Fellow Ann Jervis has published a new book – Paul and Time: Life in the Temporality of Christ. Professor Jervis will launch the book as the upcoming Society of Biblical Literature Conference in San Antonio, TX.
