News and Events

We had a wonderful celebration of our graduating Junior Fellows last Friday night, as well as welcoming William Layng, our 59th Don of Hall.

[insert pictures of William Layng & photos from high table]

William Layng is a first year PhD student in the English department. His research focuses on how ambiguously narrated sex scenes in early eighteenth-century fake autobiographies written by men and narrated by women incriminated women’s testimony on sex in ways that are still relevant to the #MeToo movement. He has been the co-chair for Audeamus, the community service committee, a member of the Lionel Massey Fund, and is one of Massey’s printing apprentices.

Join us in person or online for the upcoming events including Dialogues, book launches, screenings and book club:

On Monday, March 28th we will host the book launch of Hearts on Fire: Six Years that Changed Canadian Music by William Southam Journalism Fellow Michael Barclay. 4:30pm ET in the Junior Common Room. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

On March 30th from 4:00-5:00pm, the Massey Dialogues brings together an expert panel who question how the far right is (mis)appropriating classical antiquity to push their political and ideological agenda? How should the field of Classics react to this phenomenon?

Join Professor Jackie Murray and Professor Katherine Blouin, two international scholars of classical antiquity, and Jonathan Montpetit, an award-winning journalist specializing in far-right politics in North America, will examine the ways in which far right political groups draw from the literary and material culture of Ancient Greece and Rome in order to justify their political views. Moderated by Junior Fellow Vittorio Bottini
