This workshop will be a primer on how researchers and academics can distribute their work to larger readerships and audiences through the power of the press. A virtual presentation will be delivered by Michelle Stack, a UBC education expert who specializes in helping academics engage with the media. Hosting the event will be the five Massey Journalism Fellows:

  • Jordan Michael Smith, a contributing writer at The New Republic who has written for the New York Times, Washington Post, and The Atlantic.
  • Pacinthe Mattar, a winner of the National Magazine Award for her writing about objectivity.
  • Owen Guo, an independent writer for the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, and formerly a stringer in China for the New York Times.
  • Vinita Srivastava, host of “The Conversation,” an award-winning podcast connecting academics with journalists.
  • Blaise Eyong, a Cameroon-based broadcaster who has made films for the BBC, Deutsche Welle, and CCTV Africa.
