Leadership Lessons Learned – A Talk with Leaders at the Start, the Middle and Tail End of their Careers 

Every stage of a person’s career comes with incredible challenges and opportunities. We will have to go through some version of “the grind” which can best be summed up as the daily boot strapping efforts needed to develop competitive skills and abilities along with potentially value producing expertise and experience. Then there is the increasingly complex nature of change taking place in your personal lives and in the world of work. Are you interested in picking up some important insights from successful leaders at different stages of their careers on how to excel personally and professionally in the different periods of your career? Would you like take part in a highly intimate and impactful mentorship session with leaders from different industries exploring some proven practices on how to thrive over the course of your working life? If so, please join Massey’s Change Maker in Residence, Peter Sloly, along with guest mentors, Karen Antonio-Hadock and Ritesh Kotak on November 26th from 6-9pm in Massey’s private dining room for a healthy plated dinner and facilitated mentoring session.     

Ritesh Kotak is a Technology and Cybersecurity analyst who has dedicated his career to exploring how emerging tech will impact society. In addition, Ritesh is a licensed lawyer in Ontario and practices in the area of Privacy, Cybersecurity and Emerging Tech. Ritesh started his career in public safety working for two police organizations focusing on cybercrime investigations and innovation. He left policing to pursue an MBA and then worked in Big Tech for two years focusing on innovation and smart cities. He left the tech sector to attend law school and received a JD with a Law and Technology Option. While in law school, Ritesh interned at the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic and worked on several projects related to legal tech. Ritesh is a frequent contributor on mainstream media and is an international public speaker. He has spoken at the World Internet Conference in China, NATO-Sponsored cybersecurity summit in North Macedonia and the FBI/Major City Chiefs Conference in the US. Ritesh has also appeared twice as a witness in House of Commons Committees.

Karen Antonio-Hadcockis a vision-driven public sector leader who is passionate about creating caring, inclusive communities and inspiring the next generation of public sector leaders. For the past 24 years she has held multiple roles in municipal government in the areas of urban planning, community building, social and health services. Currently, she is the General Manager of Housing for the Regional Municipality of  York.  In this role she leads the community housing system providing funding and oversight to the Region’s 43 non-profit and co-operative housing providers and oversees the growth and operations for Housing York Inc., York Region’s local housing corporation providing safe, affordable housing to 4500 residents. 

Peter Sloly is Massey College’s Visiting Fellow, Change-Maker-In-Residence to advance cultural and organizational change within the College while also implementing leadership development initiatives for the Junior Fellows. Peter as a professional athlete, a Deloitte partner, and a police officer who rose through the ranks to become Chief of Police. Peter is a dynamic speaker with vast experience and expertise in justice sector modernization, organizational culture change, and integrated human services operations for community safety and well-being strategies.  He is also a champion for human rights and privacy rights as well as for diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-discrimination. Peter’s career took him to five continents and over fifty countries. Peter is a recipient of the United Nations and Canadian Peacekeeping medals. He was invested as an “Officer of the Order of Merit” (Police Forces) by Canada’s Governor General. He has an MBA and a Sociology BA. Peter’s professional mission is to develop ethical change leaders, socially just communities, smart safe cities, and inclusive sustainable societies. His personal motto is “others before self, compassion for all”.
