Anti-Black Racism Education Webinar
Friday, November 6 at 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm EST
This Webinar is open to all members of the Massey community. We ask that you please register to attend by clicking here.
We have been working on the Anti-Black Racism community education. Our Junior Fellows have had the first of three sessions with one of their peers, Chantal Philips. We have also hired another two experts in the field, Ekua Quansah and Zahra Dhanani, who are helping us review the anti-Black racism and racism in general within the institution and work on reforming it in the near future.
We’ve already held several sessions – one of the Governing Board and two for the staff. This important work continues today. Your attendance is greatly appreciated — please click through here to register. The registration confirmation — which will contain the Zoom link required to participate — will be sent to your email.
This Webinar workshop will be lead by:
Zahra Dhanani is a lawyer, trainer, adjudicator, facilitator, independent consultant to the nonprofit sector and a small business owner. She studied at Osgoode Hall Law School where she received her LL.B. and earned her LL.M. in Alternative Dispute Resolution. With more than 25 years experience, Zahra has extensive knowledge in the areas of anti-oppression, diversity, inclusion, organizational development, restorative justice, conflict resolution, social justice, gender violence, disability, sexual orientation and newcomer realities. Zahra has served as an expert to service providers and community organizations providing plain language training in multiple areas. Zahra completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa, where she focused on Women’s Issues and Political Science.
Ekua Quansah is Policy Counsel at the Law Society of Ontario, where she acts as a subject matter expert on equity, diversity and inclusion issues to committees, task forces, working groups and advisory groups. From the University of Toronto, Ekua has an Honours Bachelor of Arts majoring in African Studies and Sociology and a Master of Arts in Sociology and Equity Studies in Education. She has a LL.B. from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2009. Ekua approaches all of her work through an anti-racist, intersectional lens, which allows her to centre race while understanding the complex interplay between race, disability, creed, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, family status and other aspects of identity.
