Join Nehal El-Hadi, Science and Technology Editor at The Conversation Canada; Carine Abouseif, Features Editor at The Walrus and Senior Fellow Kim Kierans, Senior Fellow; Inglis Professor of Journalism, University of King’s College (moderator) in a panel which will provide examples of how to develop research into stories for a wider audience, how to prepare a proposal and the most effective way to pitch the story for publication.

Engaging the Public: Empowering the Next Generation of Intellectual Leaders is for Junior Fellows across all disciplines who are interested in sharing their research and practice with a wider audience.
The program’s panels and workshops are designed to be interactive and practical. The goal is to offer tips and tools so that Junior Fellows can begin to translate complex ideas into accessible formats.

Nehal El-HadiScience + Technology Editor and Editor-in-Chief
Nehal El-Hadi is a writer, researcher, and editor whose work explores the intersections between the body, place, and technology. Nehal completed her PhD in Planning at the University of Toronto, where she examined the relationships between user-generated content and everyday public urban life. As a scholar, her hybrid digital/material research methods are informed by her training and experience as a science and environmental journalist. Her writing has appeared in academic journals, general scholarship publications, literary magazines, anthologies, and edited collections. She is currently the Science + Technology Editor at The Conversation Canada and Editor-in-Chief of Studio Magazine.

Kim KieransSenior Fellow; Inglis Professor Journalism
Kim Kierans (DCL hon) is Inglis Professor emerita in the School of Journalism, Writing & Publishing at the University of King’s College, Halifax, where she taught for twenty-four years following a career in journalism. She is former King’s vice-president (2010-2017) and Director of the School of Journalism (2003-2010). Kierans is vice-chairperson of the federal Independent Advisory Board on Eligibility for Journalism Tax Measures. She sits on the advisory board of OxCo Academic Video in Oxford, UK, and the board of the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateno de Manila University. Kierans is a Senior Resident at Massey College.
