Indigenous 101 with Carolyn King

Elder Carolyn King, of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, will visit Massey College on Friday, October 13 at 4:00pm, to give her unique presentation, “Indigenous 101”.  She will also talk about the Moccassin Identifier Project, which she developed in partnership with the Mississaugas of the Credit and The Greenbelt Foundation, to promote public awareness of significant cultural historic sites and the ancestral presence of First Nations, Metis and Indigenous Communities.

Carolyn King is an Elder of the community of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and a former Chief – the first woman to be elected to the position. A respected leader, a community developer, and an entrepreneur, she has been engaged by governments, educational institutions, businesses and community organizations. She has worked on community development, public relations, economic sustainability, and the environment. Above all, she has worked tirelessly to further the promotion and preservation of First Nations heritage, culture, and identity.

She developed the Moccassin Identifier Project in partnership with Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the The Greenbelt Foundation, to promote public awareness of significant cultural historic sites and the ancestral presence of First Nations, Metis and Indigenous Communities. Her unique, informative presentation, “Indigenous 101, Who are the Aboriginal People in Canada Today” has been delivered across Canada.

Elder King is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and a Member of the Order of Canada.
