Spiderman, is that you?  It’s the Junior Fellows Lecture Series!

Which one is pointing at the real Spiderman? If you don’t join us on Wednesday, February 24th at 6pm, you’ll never find out…well, you might, but you would miss some amazing talks by three amazing JFs! Come get stuck in this month’s web of knowledge, featuring Too Many Spidermans, and:

Keshna Sood (Molecular Genetics). Let’s think of Spidey, defeating Vulture! Let’s explore the way our cells use their inner web, (the cytoskeleton, aka Spidey 1) to connect with an outer web, (the extracellular matrix, aka Spidey 2) in a quest to fight crime (cancer, aka Vulture)! Keshna’s doctoral research identifies novel cell targets that connect the inner and outer webs and develops novel antibodies towards these targets to support clinical applications for cancer therapy.

Stephanie Bertolo (Public Policy). Is it Spidey-us versus Spidey-them? Is this what politics has come to? Pointing at each other? It looks like that south of the border, where political polarization seems to be growing, especially along rural-urban divides. Many assume the same pattern can be found here in Canada, creating an “us” versus “them” political dynamic. But urban and rural Canadian voters might be more similar than we think. In this talk, we will explore both the common ground and areas of divergence of those living in small towns and big cities. Are we pointing at each other too?

Sourojeet Chakraborty (Chemical Engineering). What can pointing-Spidermans (both of them!) tell us about fluid concepts? Sourojeet will discuss recent advances to understand the flow of concentrated suspensions across practical geometries. Pointing to a Spidey-hint: stability analysis performed on such complex fluids produces a viscous miscible fingering problem, the solution to which points back towards the flow of fluids through porous media.
