Junior Fellows Professional Program Pillar 5: Finance 101 with Ellen Roseman

Inflation and interest rates are rising. And there’s a threat of an economic slowdown in Canada because of supply chain disruptions and Russia’s punitive war in Ukraine.

So, why not invest some time to get a better handle on your money? In a two-hour workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 1, journalist, author and instructor Ellen Roseman will help you find ways to reduce expenses and save for an uncertain future.

Topics include managing your cost of living, using credit wisely, comparing bank accounts, saving on income taxes, navigating the gig economy, fighting fraud and saving for retirement.

Participation in this seminar achieves the requirements for Pillar 5 in the Junior Fellows Professional Program: Develop self-awareness and well-being.

This is a hybrid event. Zoom link below.

Ellen Roseman, a Quadrangle Society member, spent 40 years as a personal finance columnist at the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. She’s been teaching a course for beginners in how to invest at the U. of T. School of Continuing Studies for 15 years.

She also helped create a financial literacy course for young adults, along with the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, called Financial Basics.
