Living Disability: Building Accessible Futures for Everybody

A panel discussion with contributors to Living Disability: Building Accessible Futures for Everybody, co-hosted by Massey alums Emily Macrae and Igor Samardzic. The book gathers insights from thirty-five disabled writers across Canada on topics ranging from urban systems and disability justice to climate resilience. As Ontario marks the 20th anniversary of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, this conversation invites reflection on progress toward accessibility and inclusion. The discussion will offer the Massey community an opportunity to connect research and practice through the lens of disability justice and accessible futures.

Sean Lee (he/they) is an artist and curator exploring the assertion of disability art as the last avant-garde. Orienting towards a “crip horizon”, his practice explores the transformative possibilities of access aesthetics as an embodied politic that can desire the ways disability disrupts. Sean is currently the Director of Programming at Tangled Art + Disability. He holds a B.A. in Arts Management and Studio from UTSC, and was recently the ACM Artist-in-Residence at UTSC.

Emily Macrae (she/her)is the editor of Living Disability: Building Accessible Futures for Everybody and a Massey alum. She is a disabled writer, organizer, and twin. Her work combines policy analysis with lived experience to build accessible urban and digital environments. Her words have appeared in Canadian Architect, Spacing, and NOW magazines, as well as publications in the United Kingdom, the United States and Ukraine.

Igor Samardzic (he/him) is an urban planner specializing in accessibility and inclusive mobility. His work explores how disability-forward design can transform public space, connecting accessibility with equity and belonging. He is currently a Project Lead with Cycling and Pedestrian Projects at the City of Toronto. A published author on inclusive urban design, he holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in Geography and Urban Planning from the University of Toronto (Trinity and Massey Colleges).
