Akaash MaharajCEO of the Mosaic Institute
Akaash Maharaj leads the Mosaic Institute’s work strengthening pluralism within societies and peace between countries.
Mosaic brings together peoples, communities, and nations, to foster mutual understanding and to resolve conflict. Its projects have included peaceful co-existence on the Tibetan Plateau, national reconciliation after the Sri Lankan civil war, and addressing post genocide trauma.
Akaash also serves as Ambassador-at-Large for the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption. He has addressed the United Nations on international prosecution of Crimes Against Humanity, and he has a special commitment to reconciliation in conflict states.
As an international athlete, he was a triple gold medallist at the International Championships of Equestrian Skill at Arms. He subsequently led the Canadian Equestrian Team and federation as CEO, through the team’s most successful Olympics and Paralympics of all time.
A frequent contributor to national debate, his articles have been published by newspapers and journals on every populated continent. He appeared monthly as a broadcast essayist with TVOntario’s “The Agenda”. Maclean’s magazine named him as one of Canada’s 50 “most well known and respected personalities”.
Akaash earned his MA from Oxford University, in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, and was the first overseas student elected President of the student government in the University’s history. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, of the Royal Asiatic Society, and of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
He has been decorated twice in Canada’s national honours, for work on peace in the Middle East and for services to integrity in international sport. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, the state’s highest honour, for his contributions to global affairs.
An active volunteer, he has taught adult literacy, and served as a director on a range of international and local community boards. He speaks English and French.

L'Ashante HenryJunior Fellow, Massey College
L’Ashante Henry is a second year student in the JD Program at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and a Junior Fellow at Massey College. Prior to law school, L’Ashante completed an H.B. Com and MBA degrees from Laurentian University. While there, she was also the captain of the Women’s Varsity Basketball team. She has volunteered as a Law Firm Mentoring Leader with Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS), an Associate Editor for the Journal of Law and Equality (JLE) and a Working Group Member for the International Human Rights Program (IHRP). L’Ashante is driven to affect economic and social progress in law and business.

Alex IkejianiDirector of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and Environmental Lawyer
Alex Ikejiani is an Environmental Lawyer and Certified Specialist in Environmental Law. His 23-year practice focusses on environmental law, regulatory prosecution, oceans, and resource management law. He works for Canada’s Department of Justice, and lectures at the University of Ottawa.
Alex is a former student-athlete and member of the University of Manitoba Men’s Basketball team. He represented Nova Scotia at the Canada Games, and trained with Team Canada’s Junior Men’s basketball team. He gives back to collegiate sports by speaking to teams about ethics and systemic discrimination. He is a Director of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.

Devin HerouxReporter with CBC Sports and CBC News
Devin Heroux is a reporter with CBC Sports and CBC News. Originally from Saskatoon, he was first captivated by the Olympic Winter Games while watching the Saskatchewan curling team led by Sandra Schmirler win gold at Nagano 1998. Now based in Toronto, he hosts That Curling Show, and he has covered the Toronto Raptors NBA championship, US Open tennis, Grey Cups, and many different sporting world championships. Most recently, he was on the ground in Tokyo as a senior writer for CBC/Radio-Canada’s coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.
