Eligibility and Application

Eligible applicants must be students at the University of Toronto, either registered with the School of Graduate Studies or enrolled in professional programs such as law, medicine, or dentistry.

Election to the Junior Fellowship is for a one-year term. Fellows may apply for re-election for up to four additional years; however, residency is limited to a maximum of three years in total.

For resident Junior Fellows, residence and meal fees apply. Non-resident Junior Fellows pay an annual fee that provides access to College facilities, including study carrels and lockers, as well as selected meals.

Massey College accommodates up to 60 resident Junior Fellows and up to 70 non-resident Junior Fellows. Each year, approximately 20 resident and 30 non-resident positions become available.

    Applicants must be full-time graduate students at the University of Toronto. Applications are open to all degrees and disciplines, including professional degrees such as law, medicine or dentistry.

  • How many Junior Fellows are chosen each year?

    The numbers depend on re-applications of existing Junior Fellows. On average, there are 20 openings for Resident and 30–40 spots for Non-Resident Junior Fellows each year.

Application Process

Supporting documentation needed to apply

Please ensure you have all of the requisite documentation available in digital format prior to beginning the application process, with the exception of proof of enrollment which is requested when admissions offers go out in the Spring. Please note we only accept documents in .PDF form. Once you have compiled the required documentation, please fill out the Junior Fellow Application Form and upload the following documents:

  • A cover letter. In your letter, tell us about yourself. Please consider what you would like to bring to the life of the Massey Community. Please describe how you will contribute to the community, what sort of unique skills or interests you possess that could impact Massey College in a positive way and why you would like to be a Junior Fellow. 
  • A curriculum vitae, including details of education, scholarships, honours achieved, volunteer work, and an account of other interests and activities. 
  • Evidence of admission to the University of Toronto. Please note we can extend conditional offers of admission to the Junior Fellowship to those who are awaiting an offer from a graduate/professional program at UofT. Proof of enrollment is requested in the Spring to retain your position in the Junior Fellowship. 
  • A scanned copy of official academic transcripts or ACORN screenshot (if admitted, the Selection Committee may request the original versions of the scanned documents.) 
  • Names, professional email addresses and telephone numbers for two (2) referees (former/current Professors or Community Leaders, Employers or Supervisors whom you have worked with in the past 5 years). Upon submission of your application, your referees will receive an email from Massey College inviting them to complete a reference form. Due May 7, 2026. Please note your referee can submit their form before you submit your application, if you wish. Please send the form at the link below.
