The Rule of Law and Civic Education

What does the rule of law mean for our society, and why does it matter to every citizen?

Massey College will host a timely conversation exploring the significance of the rule of law, the role of courts and the Constitution in Canadian society, and the importance of civic education in strengthening our understanding of these institutions.

Chief Justice Michael Tulloch has made public education about the rule of law a central focus of his work, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that Canadians—particularly young people—understand how the law, courts, and constitutional principles shape their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Join Chief Justice Tulloch, Allan Rock and distinguished guests for a substantive and engaging discussion about the state of civic education in Canada, the challenges facing the rule of law today, and how we can better equip citizens to understand and participate in our democratic institutions.

Speakers:

The Honourable Michael H. Tulloch was appointed Chief Justice of Ontario and President of the Court of Appeal for Ontario in 2022.

Allan Rock is President Emeritus of the University of Ottawa, and a former Professor in its Faculty of Law.

Moderator:

Shane Joy is a JD/MBA candidate at the University of Toronto, and Junior Fellow at Massey College.
