The Law Society Formal Dinner Series brings prominent legal figures to Massey College to meet with Junior Fellows, Senior Fellows, Quadrangle Society Members, and other members of the Massey community. Each dinner provides an opportunity for thoughtful conversation and connection across disciplines and generations in the collegial setting of Formal Dinner.

This Week’s Guest: Joshua Favel

Held in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, this dinner will provide an opportunity to learn from an Indigenous legal scholar and practitioner about the relationship between law, Indigenous rights, reconciliation, and the ongoing work of building a more just Canada.

Joshua Favel is member of Poundmaker Cree Nation, and a corporate and commercial lawyer with a broad practice advising Indigenous communities and their businesses on a range of legal matters. He also advises industry clients on diverse commercial projects, particularly those involving Indigenous interests. Joshua’s expertise includes advising on economic development matters, corporate transactions, corporate governance, and negotiating commercial agreements. Before joining BLG, Joshua practiced corporate and commercial law as an associate at both a national firm in Toronto and a boutique Indigenous law firm. He was also a member of faculty at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Law, where he served as an assistant professor.
